Annual Training Cycle
Summer: From June 18th –
Labor Day: We have four to six practices a week, usually at Twin
Brook in Cumberland. Practices consist of various dryland activities
such as trail running, strength training, and pole bounding. We
spend time working on technique on roller-skis. The practices are
coached by Meghan Burns, an assistant coach at the University of
New Hampshire, and myself. Athletes are encouraged to sample two
practices prior to signing up for the summer session.
September 15- October 20th: We meet once a week
usually on Sundays for a roller-ski session. Most of the kids are
take part in Fall sports. We spend most of these sessions focusing
on technique drills, keeping the intensity level very low.
October 20th-December 1st: At the end of the Fall sports season,
we meet 4-6 times a week for dryland and roller-ski training. Kids
spend time developing specific strength for the upcoming ski season.
This period is highlighted with a trip to Canada during Thanksgiving
week for an early season ski camp. This in combination with fall
training gives the kids a significant lift throughout the season.
December 1st- end of high school ski season: For
those who want an additional day of training per week, we meet on
weekends during the season. During these sessions, we focus on technique
and follow-up from the Summer and Fall sessions.
End of High School Season-Until the snow melts:
We continue to meet one to three times per week.
